Nadia Curto is truly a one woman show. We love her enthusiasm, energy & passion for Barolo as much as we love her wines! Hearing her philosophy & laughing until we cried at our recent visit with Nadia, solidified a partnership that began via Zoom. Curto is a small winery located in La Morra and Nadia is the second generation of winemaker after Marco, her dad, started 60 years ago in this beautiful corner of this wine region. Nadia, Elio Altare’s niece, only produces red wines and the top wine is her Barolo from the Arborina Cru. She now is working in total organic philosophy since few years ago and even in the cellar she works in a total natural way with lowest amount of sulfites possible and no yeast added but using the natural ones from the grapes. In 2000, Nadia joined the family winery, and has been running it for many years now. Nadia’s winemaking style is influenced by both her father and her uncle, and she applies the different methods to different wines. Both the Barolo Arborina and the Barolo La Foia are made with grapes from the Arborina vineyard. However, the winemaking methods are very different, one traditional, one modern. La Foia is made in the traditional family style whereas Arborina is made in the modernist style. You can’t go wrong with either, both of Curto’s Barolos epitomize the personality of the Nebbiolo grape as grown in La Morra!
